Two contrasting works will feature in our next concert on March 28th at Emmanuel Church in West Hampstead. American composer Gregory Spears' haunting 'The Tower and the Garden is a setting of three poems which contrast the peaceful refuge of 'the garden' with the looming technological threat of 'the tower'. Heinrich Schütz published his Musicalische Requiem in 1636 upon the death of his friend and fellow musician Prince Heinrich von Reuss. It contrasts textures of two choirs and varied combinations of soloists to create a complex yet inspiring work.
